Founded in 1894 by a pioneering group of women to foster educational and cultural opportunities, The Ebell of Los Angeles is the city’s longest-running women's club and a listed National Register of Historic Places landmark. Its sprawling Mid-Wilshire campus was designed in 1927 by architect Sumner Hunt in a grand Italian Renaissance Revival style, complete with hand-carved ceilings, a lush central courtyard garden, and the iconic 1,238-seat Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Over the decades, the historic complex has hosted legendary cultural moments—it served as the stage where a young Judy Garland was discovered in 1934 and was the site of Amelia Earhart's final public address in 1937. Today, the Ebell is a premier venue for weddings, black-tie galas, film screenings, live theatrical or musical performances, and Hollywood productions seeking timeless 1920s elegance. A true architectural gem, the Ebell stands as an enduring monument to Los Angeles's rich history and vibrant creative spirit.
